Kenmore Rugby News

A new year, a new club

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

The Kenmore Rugby Club is excited to announce that beginning with the 2021 season, ALL youth and high school rugby in Kenmore and the northtowns is finally a single club.

Kenmore Rugby (boys high school), Kenmore Girls Rugby (girls high school), and the Kenmore Youth Rugby Association (boys and girls flag and middle school) have merged under a single unified Kenmore Rugby Club.

Kenmore Rugby founder and NYS Assemblyman Bill Conrad said "It's been something we've talked about for the past few years, but the timing was never right. With the pandemic wiping out all our seasons last year, we felt there would never be a better time than right now."

With the new club structure, comes two new coaches to head up the Girls High School team. Juette Joseph was previously the Assistant Coach at D'Youville College. She played at St. Bonaventure previously. Rachel Noone also played her college rugby at St. Bonaventure. She is currently a player with the Buffalo Women's Rugby club and has previously coached with the WNY Lightning select side.

Plans are underway currently for a shortened high school season for the boys and girls teams, as well as what is hopefully the first WNY middle school league season. The flag program also hopes to resume this summer as covid restrictions are gradually lifted. Next steps for the organization include incorporating as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, the selection of an initial board of directors, appointing club officers and re-establishing our terrific parent committees.
