“You can’t get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first.” – CS Lewis

Mackenzie began his rugby career in 2004, playing in Kenmore West’s inaugural season under Coach Conrad. Mackenzie was a four-year A-Side starter for Kenmore West, selected as club captain for his Junior and Senior years, and being selected to the NYS High School All Stars three times.

After high school, Mackenzie continued his playing career at Ohio University. During Mackenzie’s Senior year he was elected club Captain and Vice-President.

Mackenzie’s mens club experience began in Chicago, Il, where he played for the Chicago Dragons. After two years playing for the Dragons Mackenzie stepped into the role of player-coach for the Dragons. Mackenzie coached the team at the Bingham Cup in 2014 in Sydney Australia, and 2016 in Nashville Tennessee.

In the fall of 2014 Mackenzie led the Dragons to their first ever win against a CARFU opponent, and then to the CARFU playoffs in the spring of 2015, where the Dragons enjoyed their first ever playoff victory. In 2015 Mackenzie was honored to receive the Founders Award from the Kenmore Rugby Club for his work on and off the field and commitment to growing the game.

Mackenzie is a member of the Buffalo Rugby Club as a utility backline player, although his first love has always been playing flyhalf.

The Head Coach of the Kenmore Rugby Boys team since 2019, Mackenzie holds a USA Rugby Level 300 Coaching Certification and looks forward to returning to the pitch post-covid.
