KENMORE RUGBY COACHES
USA Rugby Level 200
"Make it go kaboom."
Introduced to rugby in the Spring of 1979 at the University at Buffalo Fred Bressette was a tight five forward for the then 'Mad Turtles' and was a member of the 1984 team that won the NYS Rugby Conference Mens College Championship. An injury put his playing career on hold until 1988 when he was persuaded to join the Lockport RFC after some late night "arm twisting" by fellow Kenmore coach Ernie Scales.
In 1991, Bressette was offered the Head Coach position for the University at Buffalo Womens club. Bressette led the team from 1991 to 2000, during which time the club won over 80% of their games, qualified for the NYSRC playoffs for 6 straight years, won the 1993 NYSRC Women's Collegiate Championship, and participated in the Northeast Regional playoffs three times.
From 2001 thru 2006 Bressette was the Assistant Head Coach of the University at Buffalo Men. In those five years UB won 3 NYS regular season championships, 2 NYS Championships, made 3 Northeast Final Fours and won 5 consecutive NYS Spring Upstate Tournaments.
From 2006 thru 2010, Bressette was a co-head coach for the Orchard Park high school boys, qualifying for the NYS High School playoffs for four straight seasons. In the summer of 2011, Bressette founded the Kenmore Youth Rugby Association, a flag rugby program for boys and girls in grades K-8 which is now part of the unified Kenmore Rugby Club.
Bressette joined the Kenmore Rugby coaching staff in 2015 at the invitation of Bill Conrad. Bressette has also coached and managed several college and high school all-star teams and has also served as a director and officer on several rugby boards, most recently as the treasurer of RugbyNY.
Bressette resides in the Town of Tonawanda with his wife Betsy and their three children.
